Polyard-2 Well Embraces Spud-in
China International Mining and Petroleum Company (CIMP), a subsidiary of Polyard Petroleum International Group (PPIG) successfully spudded its first well of the SC49 project in Alegria, Cebu, Philippines on 22 Oct, 2014, under the approval of the Department of Energy (DOE).

CIMP’s Drilling Supervisor Cui Lianlu said, “Thanks to the full preparation, the spud-in goes very smoothly.” PPIG’s Vice President and Country Manager Vladimir Gerchikov said, “The drilling progress goes very well, as both the operation and equipments are fine. Everything goes smoothly.” As for the future prospect, he said with excitement and confidence,” Success is awaiting ahead of us.”

After a full preparation, Well Logging Energy Technology (WLE) submitted the spud-in request to CIMP on 17 Oct. After evaluating the request and having a thorough pre-spud inspection, CIMP believed that the preparation satisfied the condition for spud-in. Therefore CIMP decided to organize a pre-spud meeting on 21 Oct and under DOE’s approval, the well has officially spudded on 22 Oct.

On 22 Oct, DOE representatives, CIMP’s technical group in Alegria and the drilling crew of CIMP’s drilling contractor, WLE, appeared on the derrick floor. At 9:00 in the morning, the siren went off and the rotary table began to move, with the Kelly rotating stably and powerfully. The roaring sound of engine marked the official spud-in of Polyard-2 well. According to the drilling design, Polyard-2 has a total depth of 1240 meters, which can be reached within three weeks.

SC49 project is located in southern Cebu, Philippines, with an area of 1,970 km². Among the onshore petroleum reservoirs in Alegria Lumpan area of SC 49 Block, oil and gas has been discovered from 9 wells, whose pay zones are in the clastic rocks of Maingit from Miocene in the shallow formation.
